Faqs
1. What can I flush down the toilet?
Pee and poo and toilet paper. Absolutely nothing else, including food waste. We have a septic system! We are not on any municipal sewage system that pumps or treats brown and grey water.
2. What can I pour down the drains?
Please avoid pouring any grease or harsh chemicals down the drain. This can muck with the organic decomposition in the house’s septic system.
3. Can I do laundry?
Unless there is a stain emergency or you are staying for an extended period, please refrain from doing laundry and pack out your dirty laundry. Just leave your bedding or strip the beds and we will wash bedding the next time we come to the house.
4. How does garbage work?
There is weekly (Monday) garbage collection by a private company, for $8 per bag. You can buy stickers from Home Hardware. If you’re not staying long, we recommend packing your garbage out with you. Otherwise check with John for safe anti-animal storage until garbage day.
5. What’s the deal with recycling?
There is decent recycling on the Island but it has limited hours for drop-off. We recommend packing your recycling out with you if possible.
