Bathing

An important note about Mayne Island’s fresh water The potable water at 462 comes from a drilled well. The well is reasonably healthy to our knowledge, but please be very deliberate and measured with your water usage. This includes bathing, dish-washing, and any other use of water in the house. Mayne Island’s four aquifers are primarily replenished by rainwater. Rainwater can take up to two years to reach the aquifers, so even a rainy season doesn’t guarantee high water levels in our well.

With the above in mind, we recommend showering every other day but, of course, you do you. The water will often smell of sulphur (rotten eggs) but that is normal with our well water during most of the year.

Help yourself to the towels and washcloths on the shelves in the bathroom.

If you need anything like bug spray or sunscreen you’re welcome to check the medicine cabinet or the other bathroom storage (just please replenish as needed).
